If my husband is in the army already and I join the Air force for the first time, will we both get BAH?

We obviously wont be stationed together so is it the full amount for both of us? Would we get Separations pay too?If my husband is in the army already and I join the Air force for the first time, will we both get BAH?
not while your in basic and Tech school you won't receive BAH and BAQ he will if you live off base and yes you will receive family separation pay some bases have Army and Air force together like Nellis AFB few other bases too you make really good money military married to military my job has units that work with ArmyIf my husband is in the army already and I join the Air force for the first time, will we both get BAH?
Yes you will both get BAH w/o dependents. If you had children together only one of you would get BAH w/dependents while the other would still get BAH w/o dependents. But that is only if you were living together and therefore not eligible for gov't quarters. If you're not stationed together you'll each live in geographical ';bachelor'; quarters, and won't draw BAH. You should consider joining the Army as then you could both enroll in the MACP (Married Army Couples Program) where 82% of the married soldiers are stationed together.
You will both be eligible for BAH. If you have no children then you will both receive the single rate. If you have a child then you should choose the highest ranking member to receive the with dependent rate. Two children will not allow both of you to receive with dependent.

That you are AF and Army doesn't mean you can't be stationed together. Fort Bragg is the best example with Pope AFB adjoining the Army base.

On the separation allowance the rules are detailed on the link below.

Good Luck!
There is a distance limit to seperation pay. If you are stationed close together and able to live together then you will not get it. If you are in training and not close together then you will. If you both get stationed at areas outside the limit then you will get it. I forget what the limit is but you should be able to google it. I think it's 150 miles but I'm not sure. Only ONE of you will get separation pay.

Another good base to shoot for is Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB in Tacoma, WA. It's actually called Joint Base Lewis-McChord now and the only thing that seperates the bases is one public street. They are planning on building a bridge to join them soon.
Young lady- let me make this clear- the answer is.... Yes, you'll get single rate BAH, but only until the divorce is final.

Why on EARTH would you even consider different services? I know of different service couples who met at AIT, only to be stationed a world apart for years. I don't know anyone who would CHOOSE to join a different service than their spouse, unless the spouse was about to get out.

If you want to make the marriage work, stop worrying about BAH, and start worrying about finding a way to be together.

Same service helps greatly. Even then, it's not a sure thing. But it is a LOT more likely to see each other then.

And yes- you each are eligible for BAH with no dependence. I got that for many years that my first wife and I were together. And the second wife too, for a while, till we had a child.
You will both get BAH, but only at single rate (unless you have children, then the higher ranking individual should get dependent rate and the lower ranking should get single rate BAH).

You will not get Separation pay because it is by choice that you joined the AF knowing you would be separated.

Good Luck.
You should both get BaH. It is possible to get joint-stationed at the same installation. If not that then you may be able to be stationed in the same state or even city. For example Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base are both in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Lackland Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston, Texas are only 20 minutes apart in San Antonio, Texas. I don't think you get separation pay if you live that close to your spouse though unless he is deployed.
No. It's been some years, but the rule was only one of you get the Housing Allowance and it goes to the one of you with the highest rank. Being in different branches of service is real INTERESTING. You check HRO and he needs to check the MILPO. Getting paid twice for the same allowance!... Again the amount is by rank, and never heard of separation pay...remember two different branches in a volunteer system... Good Luck.
no. while you are in Training( basic, AIT) and ANY time you live in the Barracks or dorms you do NOT get BAH at all. the Military treats you as single and thus not authorized BAH.

Family Sep depends on how the orders are written. NO during Basic and AIT, MAYBE afterward.

if living in base housing or in town, you would each get BAH at the SINGLE rate until there are children, then ONE Of you(usually the more senior) can get BAH at the with dependent rate.

if living in PPV housing the senior forfeits their BAH to housing and the Junior can keep theirs.
Yes you would both get BAH and you would get separations pay, if you are separated.
Only one will get BAH. One BAH per household.
Yes you will if both of you E-5 or higher.
