How much does it cost for a family of 3 (husband, wife and 3.5yr old boy) to live in Reading?

House rent, council tax, water, electricity, groceries, gas, etc, etc all included...How much does it cost for a family of 3 (husband, wife and 3.5yr old boy) to live in Reading?
Reading is in an expensive area of England but it has its more affordable districts. Not everyone needs to live near the university or on the riverbank. Out of town is Winersh and there are other suburbs and ';villages';.

If you are renting accommodation, then you should allow 拢850 a month for a decent apartment/flat - furnished or part-furnished. Council tax, electricity, gas and water charges will come to about 拢1800 a year; say 拢150 per month. Shopping is relatively cheap if you avoid M%26amp;S food and designer clothes, and allow 拢125 per week; that's about 拢550 a month. Entertainment, driving, passtimes etc cost what you want to spend. We allow 拢150 a month, not counting the annual holiday.

That adds up to about 拢1700 each month to keep three people fed, healthy and sheltered. That's 拢20,400 a year, which means that you need a pre-tax household income of about 拢26,000. That's less than you would need in Oxford or Maidenhead but more than in Slough. Hope this is useful. How much does it cost for a family of 3 (husband, wife and 3.5yr old boy) to live in Reading?
A lot more than me living in Cumbria that's for sure.

Plus I've got wonderful scenery and am not surrounded by whinging southerners!
